Musandam is the northernmost part of Oman, an exclave separated from most of the country by the territory of the United Arab Emirates. Its fjord-like landscape has led to the name “Norway of Arabia”.

The mountains reaching into the water leave space for settlement only in a few places. Some villages can only be reached by sea. The magnificent coast offers opportunities for diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking and invites you to take a dhow or a yacht into the fjords and along the coast for one or several day boat trips. In any case, here you will meet the dolphins, which are at home in the calm waters of the fjords.

The capital of the governorate is Khasab, a city with port, airport and the fort, built by the Portuguese.

From Khasab you can either go hiking in the Jebel Harim mountains or explore the mountains in a 4×4 vehicle. There you can discover the fossil remains from early geological ages and prehistoric drawings on stones. It is especially recommended to take a boat trip in the fjords. This can be a day trip or last for several days and nights. For me it is a real highlight and very well combinable with other routes in Oman.
