Oman is a state in the Middle East on the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest. The national territory also includes the Rus al-Jibal peninsula at Cape Musandam, north of the territory of the United Arab Emirates on the Strait of Hormuz, the exclave of Madha, surrounded by the United Arab Emirates, and some islands off the east coast of the country.  About 5 million people live in Oman on an area that is only slightly smaller than Germany. The population density is correspondingly low at 16 persons/sq km. However, most of the population lives in cities, 1/3 in Muscat.
